In 2004, the remains of a species of small hominin were discovered on the island of Flores in Indonesia. This species was named Homo floresiensis, and is believed to have lived on the island from about 95,000 to 12,000 years ago. The remains of Homo floresiensis are some of the oldest known human remains outside of Africa.
