Hypertension which is another name for high blood pressure ( HBP) is a medical condition that force of blood on the artery is very high. People with this condition is said to be hypertensive.

Hypertension can be caused by being overweight, ingesting too much salt, old age, taking too much acoholic drinks, stress, lack of physical activities, family history, being from a certain origin like Africans etc.
High blood pressure needs to be curb as early as possible in a person because if left unattended to can brings health problems like stroke, heart attack, heart and kidney diseases and dementia too.

Hypertension can be a lifelong problem and a silent killer too and as such anyone having this problem must contact his or her physician on time to get the needed treatment.

Hypertension basically, is a health-related condition whereby there is pressure on the organ and vessels responsible for the pumping of blood. Whenever this occurs, we would have high blood pressure(HBP). Hypertension is often experienced by those who have their blood pressure elevated by certain factors such as stress, depression, anxiety etc.

What really cause hypertension is whenever the pressure in the circulatory system is elevated by the above factors, the organ meant for pumping blood which is the heart and its blood vessels that help the transportation of pumped blood by the heart to other parts of the body becomes overworked. And if this happens, the individual would have his /her blood level raised beyond the normal. If it continues untreated by not ensuring it gets back to normal level, death becomes inevitable.

What is Hypertension? Hypertension is a disease of the vascular system which occurs when the blood pressure is elevated,  if continued over a prolonged period of time it kills the host. There are two pressures recognized, a) systolic and b) diastolic. Systolic blood pressure occurs when the heart beats. Diastolic pressure occurs when the heart fills. When the systolic pressure is measured above 140 or the diastolic above 90 then hypertension is present. Causes of hypertension can be genetics, lifestyle, nicotine, caffeine, drugs, high salt intake, obesity, lack of physical activity and more. Long term of effects of hypertension are many. These include but are not limited to heart disease, stroke, loss of limbs, aneurysms and death. Treatment are many. These in include low salt diets, a vast array of medications, weight loss, extreme lifestyle changes, reduction or elimination of nicotine and more. Thank you for allowing me to answer this question. High blood pressure and hypertension are the same...hypertension is just a medical term for high blood pressure.

Hypertension is defined as having a blood pressure reading of more  than 140/90mmHg over a number of weeks. Our blood pressure changes all the time throughout the day,so your doctor just want to make sure your hypertensive reading is not just a one-off.

You may have hypertension if one of the two figures(140/90mmHg) stated above are higher.I don't want to go into full details here...

If you have hypertension, this higher pressure puts extra strain on your heart and blood vessels.Over time, this strain increases your risk of a heart attack or stroke.Hypertension can also cause kidney disease and heart disease.

We do not know exactly what causes hypertension but one thing we know is that your lifestyle can increase your risk of developing it.You are at higher risk if:

You eat too much salt

You don't eat enough fruits and vegetables

You are not active enough

You are overweight

You drink too much alcohol

There are some other factors that can increase your risk of developing it.This factors cannot be controlled.Age is one of them(as you age, your risk increases),African-Caribbean and south Asian communities are at higher risk, you are at risk if any of your family member has hypertension.

The good news  is you can lower hypertension by

Eating less salt

Eating more fruits and vegetables

Keeping to recommended daily  alcohol limit

Keeping active

Taking any hypertension drug or diabetes medication given

In layman's terms, it is called high blood pressure. Medically, the doctors refer to hypertension. The causative factor depends on a person's condition.

commonly referred to as high blood, a health condition  where the blood's constant pressure against the artery walls is elevated above normal levels. the top number on a blood pressure reading is systolic pressure, which is measured in millimeters of mercury, and the bottom number is the diastolic pressure

hypertension is diagnosed when the systolic pressure  consistently exceeds 130 mmHg or the diastolic pressure consistently exceeds 80 mmHg. it can lead to serious heart problems such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disease and vision loss, if left untreated. that is why it is called the silent killer
