Botanically, the jalapeño pepper is a fruit. A fruit is the mature ovary of a flowering plant and contains seeds. While the jalapeño pepper is often used as a vegetable in cooking and culinary applications, it is in fact a fruit from the plant species Capsicum annum. The carrot and onion, on the other hand, are not fruits but are vegetables.

I think I would pick carrot to be a fruit, for me it is more in the fruit category than in the vegetable category and I enjoy eating it

Jalapeño pepper is botanically a fruit. Despite being commonly thought of as a vegetable, peppers, along with a variety of other foods like tomatoes and cucumbers, are actually fruits because they contain seeds and develop from the flower of a plant. Carrots and onions, on the other hand, are considered vegetables because they are non-flowering parts of a plant, specifically the root and bulb respectively.
