The brightest star in the sky is Sirius, also known as the Dog Star. It is located in the constellation Canis Major, and is easily visible from most parts of the world. Sirius is about twice as massive as the Sun and about 25 times more luminous. It is also one of the closest stars to Earth, being only about 8.6 light years away.
