My friend is a kidney patient with high creatinine level in blood. It's about 6.5 reading. Doctor insisted him that he need to get dialysis if the creatinine level goes to 8 or more. Are there any medicines to avoid dialysis?

There are many medications used to treat kidney disease, but there are no medications that specifically lower the blood creatinine level. In medical care, we first arrive at a diagnosis by taking a careful history and performing a medical examination that might include laboratory testing. By making a proper diagnosis, this leads us to order specific medication to treat that specific illness. Hence, we diagnose the cause of kidney disease and that leads us to the treatment.

Although there are several medications used to treat renal illness, none of them are specifically made to lower blood creatinine levels.

Unfortunately, there is no medicine to lower creatinine in blood. Dialysis is the only option when creatinine levels are high and have reached 8 or more. However, there are certain lifestyle changes that can help reduce creatinine levels. These include limiting protein intake, reducing salt and sugar intake, avoiding alcohol and smoking, and increasing physical activity. It is also important to stay well hydrated and get enough sleep. Additionally, certain medications can help reduce creatinine levels, but these should be discussed with and prescribed by a doctor.

Yes, there are several medications that can help lower creatinine levels in the blood, but it depends on the underlying cause of the elevated creatinine levels. Some common causes include kidney disease, dehydration, or certain medications. Before starting any treatment, it is important to consult a doctor to determine the root cause and discuss the most appropriate treatment options. The doctor may also suggest lifestyle changes, such as increasing fluid intake, to help lower creatinine levels.

There are no general medical treatments that can lower creatinine in blood levels in people with kidney disease, but there are some that may lower other hormones in the body like testosterone. You could try avoiding dialysis if your creatinine level goes higher than 8, but this is not always effective.

antibiotic trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and the H2-blocker cimetidine are 2 commonly used drugs that decrease the secretion of creatinine. This can result in a self-limited and reversible increase in the serum creatinine level of as much as 0.4 to 0.5 mg/dL (depending on baseline serum creatinine level).
