Women's boxing was included as an official sport in the Olympic Games for the first time in 2012. It made its debut at the London Olympics that year. Prior to 2012, women's boxing had been a demonstration sport in some regional and international competitions, but it wasn't officially part of the Olympic program until the London Games. Since then, women's boxing has continued to be included in subsequent Olympic Games.

Women’s boxing was introduced as a non-demonstration sport at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

The 2012 Summer Olympics in London marked the first time that women's boxing was included as an official event. Three weight classes were contested: flyweight (up to 51 kilograms), lightweight (up to 60 kilograms), and middleweight (up to 75 kilograms). The 2012 Olympics also saw the first female boxing referee, British official Len Ganley. Since then, women's boxing has been included in every Summer Olympic Games.
