Seriously, I don't think that there is any kind of relationship between a Wi-Fi connection and modem or a refrigerator which would cause a potential interference with the Wi-Fi connection in any way possible. If anyone told you that this was possible, please kindly ask them to show you how the interference is caused by either a modem or a refrigerator. Believe me when I tell you that such individual who told you such bizarre stories wouldn't happen to know how to explain or justify whatever rubbish that he or she has told you about wi-fi connection being affected by modem.
Modem gives you access to your personal internet network connection which is used mostly on a laptop or a desktop computer, so I really don't understand how it can interfere with Wi-Fi connection.
