There were records that archaeologists have found ruins of a great war but it has not been proven if those are the ruins of the Trojan war. So, the question of real existence of Achilles is not yet clear. If the experts can prove that these remnants are from the Trojan War, then Achilles can be real. Meanwhile, without the facts, these are all myths.

Achilles is a famous, fictional hero from Greek mythology. He is a hero of the Trojan War and a central protagonist of Homer's Iliad. He was rumored to be a nearly invincible demigod, who was dipped into the River Styx by his mother, an immortal named Nereid Thetis. Where the water touched him, his skin became invulnerable. However, Nereid Thetis made the fatal mistake of keeping her hand around his heel during the event, making it his weakness. Achilles is most famous for slaying Trojan hero Hector outside of Troy. He is believed to have died afterward - killed by Paris, Hector's brother. He died when a poisoned arrow struck him in the heel, the only place that was vulnerable. This gave way to the popular phrase, "Achilles heel", to symbolize weakness.

I really appreciate your reply but I saw somewhere on the internet that Achilles actually existed. I don't think he was a mythical being...I may be wrong though

No, Achilles didn't actually exist. He's a part of Greek mythology - not necessarily a being, just a central character in a story. It's possible that there were people named Achilles in history, but the original (as told in Greek myths) doesn't exist.

The only information about his existence we can find in Homer's Iliada, which is a fairy tale, myth, legend. We know for sure there was a large settlement in north-west Turkey that perfectly fits the description of the Ancient Troy but totally proved to be.

There is evidence of destruction of this settlement, about twelve times if I remember well, mainly by fire.

There is evidence that Ancient Greeks migrated in different parts of the Medoterian and the Black Sea, so could explain their expedition against Troy.

We know little about Greece in Homer's time. Maybe there was a need for a story that will unify all tribes against the common enemy. We know that Ancient Greece was not a united country but a state with plenty of small puzzles -polis- cities totally independent from each other with only two common elements - religion and expansion from mainly mountain land.

The story was created, it needed a hearo. Why Achilles? Is it a coincidence there is a river in East Greece colled Achelous? Maybe. There are various translations of this name as well. Chose the one you like the most - "a desert flower" " my brother" or "son of the snake". The Greek word "achos" means pain, torment. And one more information in Greek it is Achilleus and in Latin Achilles. Now you can play the historian and make your own theory. That how it works.

Apologies for the writing quality. English is not my first language.

It is not real since it is considered a mythical story. However, the name of Achilles is derived from 'Tendon of Achilles' in our ankle joints. The reason why Achilles was defeated because his tendon of Achilles was raptured during his battle.

I think NO,

The warrior Achilles is one of the great heroes of Greek mythology. According to legend, Achilles was extraordinarily strong, courageous and loyal, but he had one vulnerability his "Achilles Heel". Homer's epic poem the iliad tells the story of his adventures during the last year of the Trojan War.

Achilles is a well known, fictitious legend from Greek folklore. He is a legend of the Trojan War and a focal hero of Homer's Iliad. He was reputed to be an almost powerful diving being, who was plunged into the River Styx by his mom, an everlasting named Nereid Thetis. Where the water contacted him, his skin became safe. In any case, Nereid Thetis committed the lethal error of keeping her hand around his heel during the occasion, making it his shortcoming. Achilles is generally popular for killing Trojan legend Hector beyond Troy. He is accepted to have kicked the bucket a while later - killed by Paris, Hector's sibling. He passed on when a harmed bolt struck him in the heel, the main spot that was defenseless. This gave way to the famous expression, "Fatal flaw", to represent shortcoming.

There is no one answer to this question, as opinions on the matter vary. Some people believe that Achilles actually existed, while others believe that he was a mythical figure. Ultimately, it is up to the individual to decide whether or not he or she believes in Achilles' existence.:ermm:

Achilles is a legendary figure in Greek mythology and it is unclear if he was a historical figure. There is no archaeological or written evidence to prove his existence, and many scholars believe he is a mythological character. However, some historians suggest that the Trojan War, in which Achilles played a significant role, may have been based on real events or conflicts that occurred in the ancient world. Nevertheless, the exact details of Achilles' life and exploits are largely a matter of legend and myth.
