All fish, whether they live in salt water or fresh water  must maintain a certain level of salinity in their bloodstream to survive. Most are restricted to one environment because they cannot change the way they regulate this, but some species spend periods of their life in both environments. Examples of such species are red fish drum, black drum, pin fish, croakers, lady fish, tarpon etc.

Among all the fish, goldfish can only live in freshwater. Other fish can live both saltwater and freshwater and they are called euryhaline fish, such as flounder, eels, red drum, salmon, and striped bass. Moreover, freshwater fish are commonly found in rivers, lakes, and streams. The rest of these fish are living in the deep ocean which has a high saline level.

Salmon and other anadromous fish spend parts of their lives in both freshwater and saltwater. Living beings have maintained an interior environment that roughly resembles the ionic composition of the primordial seas since life originated several billion years ago in the oceans.

Fish can tolerate a wide range of salinity at some phase of their life cycle , example s of this fish include flounder, eels, salmon and red drum

Euryhaline organisms are able to adapt to a wide range of salinities. An example of a euryhaline fish is the molly (Poecilia sphenops) which can live in fresh water, brackish water, or salt water. The green crab (Carcinus maenas) is an example of a euryhaline invertebrate that can live in salt and brackish water.

Saltwater animals are animals that are collected from a saltwater or freshwater ocean. With the exception of dolphins, all other saltwater animals are animals that are collected from nature.

SALMON and anadromous fish species spend portions of their lives in both fresh and saltwater. Life began evolving several billion years ago in the oceans and since that time, living things have maintained an internal environment closely resembling the ionic composition of those primeval seas.

Saltwater animals have adapted to live in a habitat with high levelsof salt, while freshwater animals are adapted to live in a habitat with low levels of salt.

To distinguish between saltwater animal and freshwater animals, we can consider the following characteristics:

1) Habitat:

Saltwater animals as the name suggests, live in marine environments such as oceans, seas.

freshwater animals on the other hand inhabit freshwater ecosystems such as rivers, lakes and ponds.

2) Adaptations:

Saltwater animals have evolved specific adaptations to survive in high salinity environments.

They are typically equipped to deal with the osmotic challenges posed by saltwater, such as specialized kidneys or salt-excreting glands. Freshwater animals have adaptation to live in environments with lower salinity levels.
