My partner's brother had to attend the emergency room last night as he says he cannot urinate and hasn't relieved himself for 4 days. Is this possible and what would be the consequences if it were true?

I know that holding your urine for too long is one of the most uncomfortable things on earth. It is said that when you do that, it has the tendency of causing pain and weakening the pelvic muscles. This means that if this is frequently done, your tendency to normally hold down urine reduces with time.

Also, since urine is waste, holding it up for hours in the bladder increases your chances of coming down with a bacterial infection. Possibly a urinary tract infection. Now some people comically say that your bladder may burst open. Whatever the case may be, I think people should try to use the restroom regularly.

Whether it is dangerous or not, I do not know. But why should one hold unnnecessarily for long period of time? It may only build up pressure in the stomach or bladder and create uneasiness.

This is too dangerous. Holding urine for that long weakens the bladder and once it gets destroyed you can no longer control yourself whenever you want to pee. I have an aunt who has gone through this and surprisingly, at times she pees on herself accidentally she couldn't afford for medical so that she gets treated.

It's not good to hold urine for so long as it can bring some health complications it's waste and should be excreted promptly. Also it can weaken pelvic muscles and can cause the inability to control the flow of urine.

If the urine is infected with pathogens, then it might jeopardize your health. It is still considered a waste of your body. Everything consumed that is not absorbed will be excreted by the kidneys in the form of urine.

Yes, it is dangerous to hold your urine for too long. The consequences of not being able to urinate for four days can be serious and include bladder and kidney infections, and, in some cases, even kidney failure. In such a situation, it is important to seek medical attention.

There is no risk to holding your urine too long, as long as you are taking care of your body and don't overrule your partner. If you are feeling pain or problems with your bladder, it is important to see a doctor or nurse.
