Variegated leaves are leaves that has green and non-green parts. The green parts of the leaves do contain chlorophyll, or the photosynthetic pigment used by plants during photosynthesis. Meanwhile, the non-green parts do not contain chlorophyll and therefore do not absorb sunlight.

Yes, variegated leaves still contain chlorophyll, but the amount of chlorophyll in a variegated leaf is typically less than that of a non-variegated leaf. Variegated leaves lack some of the genes necessary for producing chlorophyll, which results in a patchy coloration due to the presence of other pigments in the leaf.

Variegated leaves have green parts (where the cells contain chlorophyll) and white parts (where there is no chlorophyll). Only the parts that were green become blue/black with iodine solution, showing the importance of chlorophyll in photosynthesis.

Each person's Reddit account may have different answer. Some leaves that are common in green plants contain chlorophyll, while other leaves may not. Always test to see if they contain chlorophyll and if they do, enjoy the beautiful flowers and leaves!
