Park and walk. That sounds flippant, but it is serious. A car is very inefficient when driven at low speeds through a parking lot, so take the first parking spot you see, even if it means a long walk to the store. You can greatly improve efficiency if you wait until you need several things, so you can get them all in one trip. Or simply walk to a nearby store instead of driving there.

If your car has a mile per gallon computer, you can learn how to drive to get improved numbers. For instance, when you approach a traffic signal, you can slow down so you don't have to stop. Every time you hit the brake you waste the gas it takes to get rolling again. If the car is going downhill, you can take your foot off the gas pedal and let it coast. The MPG will usually go over 100 when you do that. I find that driving by the MPG reading raises the average by about two points.

Driving habits can certainly improve your gas mileage.

Sudden acceleration and unnecessary breaking will lower your gas mileage. It will lower your car's life also.

As the cars clutch plates gets older, gas mileage reduces.

Proper tyres and air pressure also helps in improving gas mileage.

If carbon saturates on spark plugs and O2 sensors, the mileage will reduce.

Now car companies started showing efficient acceleration on the speedometer so that good mileage can be achieved.

Keep your speed steady.and within the speed limit.

Faster you go ,worse  it gets.Rapid acceleration and hard braking quickly eat up the fuel. So avoid these factors whenever possible.

Improving fuel efficiency in cars can be achieved through various strategies. Here are some tips to enhance the fuel efficiency of your vehicle:

Drive Smoothly: Aggressive acceleration, abrupt braking, and rapid speed changes can consume more fuel. Maintain a steady speed, accelerate gradually, and anticipate traffic conditions to minimize unnecessary stops and starts.

Maintain Proper Tire Pressure: Keeping your tires properly inflated can reduce rolling resistance and improve fuel efficiency. Regularly check tire pressure and inflate them to the recommended levels as stated in the vehicle owner's manual.

Reduce Excess Weight: Extra weight in the vehicle can decrease fuel efficiency. Remove unnecessary items from the trunk or cargo area to lighten the load and improve fuel economy.

Use Cruise Control: Utilizing cruise control on highways and long, steady stretches of road can help maintain a consistent speed and improve fuel efficiency by avoiding unnecessary fluctuations.

Avoid Excessive Idling: Idling consumes fuel without getting you anywhere. If you anticipate stopping for more than a minute, it is generally more fuel-efficient to turn off the engine and restart when needed.

Regular Vehicle Maintenance: Ensure that your car is properly maintained, including routine oil changes, air filter replacements, and spark plug inspections. Regular maintenance helps to keep the engine running efficiently and optimizes fuel economy.

Plan Efficient Routes: When possible, plan your routes to avoid heavy traffic, construction zones, or areas with many stoplights. This can help minimize time spent idling or in congested traffic, leading to better fuel efficiency.

Use Air Conditioning Wisely: Air conditioning can increase fuel consumption, especially at high speeds or in stop-and-go traffic. Use air conditioning conservatively, and when driving at lower speeds, consider using the vehicle's ventilation system or opening windows instead.
