Before taking care of my 13 year old granddaughter (my son's child) I would have said  it was due to the environment a person grows up in or a lifestyle choice but she is the messiest and dirtiest child imaginable. No one in our family has ever been like it and it's very hard to live with.

I recently learned that her mother, who did not raise her, was and still is exactly the same which leads me to wonder whether this kind of behaviour can be inherited. What do you think?

It is in the child's genes. It can be inherited from both parents or members who are in the family tree. I do believe that some traits of a child can be corrected. It is a matter of being patient.

I agree. I never thought it was possible for messiness to be inherited before I had my granddaughter come to live with me but no one in our family was ever like it, only her mother who did not raise her.

Based on my experience, some of my cousins are like this. The culprit is their mother. They always say that a child's good or bad behavior starts in the family. It is a crucial role for the parents to show good habits to their children. With this matter, it is an environmental factor that can influence a person's behavior.

It happens in a succession for people.

1. First they feel like spoiling their own self.

2. They make choices that gives them freedom system and parents

3. They make more choices that happen in compound effect.

4. At the end, they appear messy and it sticks with them.

It does not happen overnight. And there are a lot of inputs that goes on to make one messy in their lifestyle.

giving messy is a lifestyle choice . While working at a neat, tidy desk may make a person more likely to eat healthily and be more generous, a messier desk and promote creativity and help give birth to ideas, according to researchers at the University of Minnesota.

Every lifestyle has a starting point, many negative lifestyle grows stronger and stronger if unchecked. Though some are hereditary which means it transferred from parent to child. In the case of messy lifestyle this could be inherent in a child.

Some traits are inherited from parents to their children. Others can be just a behavior that a child has picked either through observation in the house such as his/her mother being careless, their peers in school. So it can be either way, innate or picked from the surrounding.

I didn't think that her mother alone is responsible. The character from both the parents are get inherited. A child was not born with mother family characters. So you have to observe you son whether he is like that.  Think or act before you blame other whether it was your mistake or not. If your son is doing the same then it is inherited from him. In any way , it can be corrected instead of blaming and wasting money. Think before blaming other whether i am perfect in all ways.

Being messy is a lifesytle that one pick up during their early stage of life, or may be as a result of their present situation, laziness is what mostly leads to being messy.

For me it is both. My mom is a hoarder. She has so many trash stocked in a room in our house, she's not using it but don't want to throw it on a garbage. I may want a clean home but I had no choice but to follow her antics. That's why I've inherited her kind of lifestyle

This question is difficult to answer because it is not clear which environment or lifestyle choice the granddaughter produces this messy behaviour. It is clear that she is very young and has not reached a age where she is able to handle such messiness.
