Should I start blogging on medium or my self hosted own blog?
more_vert
There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, as the best way to start your own blog may vary depending on your personal audience and needs. However, if you are willing to invest the time and effort it will take to start your own blog, medium is a good option.

We want our content read by all irrespective of the number of followers on social media and the visitors to our website. At times, your content may not get much visibility. Giving your viewers good content is important. There are people yet to know about your writing. So if you want to take your content further and grow your audience, Medium can certainly help you.

You always risk the chance that a site will close down and all your content will be lost. In a site like Medium, they have individual weblogs for each member to use. I've seen many of these sites come and go over the past years and all the posts you've written in your personal weblog will be deleted when the site closes. You'll either need to keep a good backup of your articles and information you post on this site or risk the chance of losing it all.

If you are looking to generate an income from your blog posts it is best to post them on your own blog site. This way you can start your own following and attract visitors to your site. On the other site, you may never have anyone read your material, where on your site you can self -promote yourself and attract people to your personal blog site.

If it was me, I would put the material on my own blog site and not a shared site.

I think the better option is publish your own self-hosted blog and then republish on medium. You can easily import your published blog on medium.

Won't that be termed plagiarism because it will just be like direct copy and paste of your Article from one site to another.

The best option is definitely to post on your own blog so that you can gradually grow your blog on different social media media platforms,  I am optimistic if you have very good contents on your blog,  you will get traffics that will always check in because of the value or benefits they derive from your blog.
If you are impatient or lack the tactics to boost your blog popularity then you may opt for medium and ensure you have a back up for your article just some one had suggested earlier because sites are not reliable 100%.
If medium allow republishing of articles then explore the two options that is,  you publish on your own blog, keep growing the blog gradually while you republish on medium to make money, it will be safer this way if it is possible.

If you care about SEO, you should start self-hosted blog. Because Medium has high web authority and it will outrank your self-hosted website when you post the same content. Sure, Medium will bring you traffics and readers much easier than your personal blog at first.

Actually, you can do both. You can take advantage of the canonical url tag in Medium. Make sure Medium is just one of the content distribution and don't post all of your content on it.

If you have the chance, it is best to host one's blog site. At least, you can able to control the features and can earn some money online at the same time.

You can create a blog and then make a summary of it on medium. We all want people to read our blog and do it by visiting our website right? It's fine to create articles on medium but in my opinion, it's more convenient and flexible if you have a blog

Whether you should use Medium or your own blog will depend on your specific goals and resources. Here are a few factors to consider:

Audience: If you already have an established audience on your own blog, it may make sense to continue publishing there in order to reach that audience. On the other hand, if you are looking to reach a new or wider audience, publishing on Medium could be a good way to get your content in front of a larger audience.

Control: If you publish on your own blog, you will have more control over the design, features, and branding of your site. On the other hand, publishing on Medium means giving up some control in exchange for the convenience and potential reach of the platform.

Cost: Hosting and maintaining your own blog can require an investment in terms of time and money, especially if you use a self-hosted platform such as WordPress. Publishing on Medium is generally free and requires less maintenance, but you may not have as much control over the appearance and features of your content.

Monetization: If you are looking to monetize your content through advertising, sponsorships, or other means, it may be easier to do so on your own blog. Medium has its own monetization options through its Partner Program, but these are only available to a selected group of writers.

Ultimately, the decision to use Medium or your own blog will depend on your specific goals and priorities. It may be helpful to try publishing on both platforms and see which works best for you.

This is a personal decision, and the answer will depend on your individual needs and preferences. Medium is a great platform for getting started quickly and easily, as it requires minimal technical knowledge and provides a wide range of features. However, if you want more control over the look and feel of your blog, and if you plan to monetize your content, then a self-hosted blog might be a better option. Ultimately, it is up to you and what you want to get out of your blog.

Each person's preferences will differ. Some may prefer a more personal experience, while others may prefer more engaging content. Ultimately, the decision depends on what you think is the most important to your audience.

Medium is a popular site that has a high “domain sovereignty”.

This, in turn, means your articles may appear high on Google rankings in a matter of days. If you start your blog, building domain authority takes months or even years. On a hobbyist blog, the domain authority will never reach the heights of Medium.

Your own blog is better in my opinion because you can direct the traffic and the viewers don't have to be on medium to find your content which is already overcrowded.

It depends on the specific circumstances. If the old blog post is still relevant and provides value, updating it can be a good option. However, if the topic has changed significantly or requires a major overhaul, creating a new post may be more appropriate. Consider the relevance, quality, and impact of the update before deciding.

Unlike writing on your own blog website where you are the only writer, writing on Medium allows you to have a sense of community, where writers and readers are there for good readings and for supporting dedicated writers.
