Owning your own website has some benefits and also so drawbacks. Here are the pros and cons of owning a website:


Pros:

  1. If you own a business it is necessary these days to maintain an online presence for your customers. All business need to have a way to communicate with people online. 
  2. An online website allows you to configure and set up a commercial store that you can easily sell to people online. 
  3. This is a great way to get out the information quickly, all you need to do is post it on your site.
  4. People are in a hurry and use the internet to find the information they are looking for. If you have a website online it is easy for people to find the information from your site. 
  5. The world is changing and brick and motor are going out. People prefer to stay home and shop than to go out and fight the crowds. A website allows them to do this.
  6. It is easy to reach people worldwide with the information you have to offer.
Cons:
  1. If you are not a business, don't earn any income from your website, then it will cost you quite a bit of money each year to keep it up and running.
  2. When you first start an online website it is hard to find visitors or get people attracted to your site.
  3. If you don't understand SEO or how to optimize your site, you'll need to pay someone to help you.
  4. If it is your first site, it will take you several hours a day to research how to make your site more attractive and what to do to set it up correctly.
  5. Understanding all the SEO of a site can be confusing for a first-time website owner. 
  6. Finding a hosting company, checking a domain name and paying for all this will cost you some money. This all has to be done before you even get started to build your site.
  7. If you have never build a website before, you'll need to figure this out or hire a person to build one for you.
  8. It is very time-consuming to promote your site on social media. You'll need to spend a lot of time working on the site when it first goes online. 
  9. You'll need to do a lot of research to figure out and understand what is the best affiliate programs to add to your site that will generate an income from your site if you don't own an online store.
These are just some of the pros and cons. But owning a website is fantastic and you can optimize your site and earn a living from this site. You can set up an online store to sell information, goods or services. Today many people trust business more if they have an online presence.

Owning your own website is really depends on you, it is not necessary to have your own website. Before having your own website, you must think and consider many things such as, why do you want to use it? for what purpose? do you a budget to maintain the other services you will need to maintain the website's need? can you support it financially and timely in the upcoming future? Those are just the basic things you have to consider when you are planning on having your own website. Now, if you are thinking that you want to own one and will use it to earn money online, then it is also a good idea because it can really help you a lot to acquire views or members/subscribers which can lead you to earn big money. Still, it will not that very easy you must be patient and work hard to promote it and to make it work.

Well, I don't know if you need a website; it depends on what you do and what your goals are. But there are several good reasons to have a personal website or blog:

  1. You can showcase your expertize, which may help you get better career opportunities;
  2. You can share your interests and engage with like-minded peers;
  3. In the future, you might be able to turn your hobbies and side-gigs into a fully fledged career;
  4. Since it's your own platform, you can leverage it however you want. You can use it to spread a particular message, promote some idea, product or service, earn money through ads, etc.

The important thing is there's no reason not to start a website or blog if that sounds like a good idea. You can start for free if you want to. If you want to look more professional, you can buy a domain (which is really cheap) and look into free hosting options. Of course, if later on you want to get a larger audience, start earning money, etc., you totally can! You don't have to start with any investment though.
