I cannot puzzle out why some people squander their money which is not needed in their lives. Is it because they do not know what to do with their money? I think it is better to donate it than to overspend it. Does it make sense?

It is a character that is evident in people who are either insecure, want to showoff, jealous or they have no good money management skills. It is however costly since the things you buy out of such a situation is of no significance to you at all and you will end up throwing it again wasting your money.

I hope you are not referring to people who are pathological money spenders. It is not a good thing to be connected with them. It might influence us to be like them in the long run.

People splurge on the things they don't need to showoff . They slurge their things to jealous others ,to degrade them or to make others feel down .

Then, that's not a good practice to pass on to the next generation. These kinds of people can never be satisfied with their lives. They will continue to aspire to something that they cannot afford in the long run.

Yes that's it. Most of the people love to downgrade other because they pull their pride upwards that way, which is not a good trait to have

Either way, your best shot at avoiding a splurge purchase is denying yourself the opportunity in the first place, or talking yourself out of it somehow. That might mean completely eschewing situations where you’ll be tempted – avoiding the mall, your favorite retail store, Amazon.com, or any other tempting spending venues like the plague. Or perhaps you could institute a set of rules that govern the purchases you make. Of course, that strategy only works if you follow those rules to begin with.

I agree that a person needs to control himself. If he has the strong will to do it, then he will not be in a difficult situation. But then, many people are still not into changing their lifestyles. Even if they do not need to buy impractical things, they still do it.

Lack of impulse control which parents failed to teach...also no concept of money management, which parents and school both failed to teach. It is why dumb gals have a hundred pairs of shoes, yet cannot find one they want to wear. It is why dumb guys have a garage full of tools, and keep adding to the collection, even though they rarely use what they already have.

You make a valid point. I agree with you that it also depends on how the parents upbringing their kids about the money.

I just cannot understand why some people do this. In fact, it is none of my business. It is up to them to continue this extravagant lifestyle.

People actually spend their money on things to feel powerful, as a result of pride and the fact that they want to impress other people around them and to gain popularity.

People overspend their money if they're rich because of pride and power. They buy expensive things because they believe that they show power in that way by buying a thing a normal person cannot afford. Some of the rich person who doesn't know budgeting spends a lots of items for them to flex what they've earned.
