Looking at it beyond our narrow, human – not to mention urban – perspective, forests provide habitats to diverse animal species. They are home to 80% of the world's terrestrial biodiversity, and they also form the source of livelihood for many different human settlements, including 60 million indigenous people.

Wild animals need to live to their own habitat and that is the forest. It supposed to be like this. That's the reason why some people condemned the idea of caging them in the zoo. They should be in the forest to balance the ecosystem. It is a cycle that needs to be maintained.

Forest are pretty much important in many ways.

For example,

  • they generate the oxygen
  • they are good for the wildlife
  • they maintain the ozone layers

Pretty much they can take care of a lot of things in the wild. And also they are good for sustaining this planet. So yeah the importance of the forest continues to stay.

Forest are natural home to many wildlife, the reason some wildlife protection agencies are against deforestation, because this will lead to elimination of wildlife. The trees in the forest serves as forage and cover for some wild animals, cutting down of trees leaves these animal expose to human influences.

Think of the town/city/community that you live in. Let's say it is a town with stores and businesses and places you go to find food and shelter and any other items you may need to help you live your day to day life. This town is your home and your community. It is important to your way of life and survival. The forest is that for wildlife. They live in the trees and build their lives and homes in the rocks and dens. They find food and water within the forest.

Forests are safe and comfortable to the animals, making them important to their way of life and survival. So many different species and types of wildlife need the forest to survive and thrive.

Forest is home to wild life so if there is no forest, there would be no wildlife. As forest cover is decreasing world wide due to human activities, the wildlife animals are loosing their habitat and are forced to enter human areas where they are either caught by zoo authorities or brutally killed by people due to threat perception.

Forest gives shelter and food to wildlife.

Forest can be natural or man made_planted. They both have benefits to wildlife such as:

Providing shelter during adverse weather conditions such as shade during sunshine and rainfall.

Protection _ Trees act as wind breakers and also hold the soil firm which helps the animals living in the soil to be more protected.

Provide food_the herbivores obtain their foods from the twigs, leaves and grasses in the forest.

Forest is their home and food source. That's why the deforestation is such an issue.  It destroys a place where the animals live and reproduced and its leed to extinction.

Forests are essential for wildlife as they provide habitats and resources such as food, water, shelter, and breeding grounds. Forests also help regulate climate, maintain biodiversity, and support ecological processes like pollination and nutrient cycling, which are vital for the survival of wildlife species.

Forests provide habitats for plants and animals, including some of our planet's most iconic species like the tiger, giant panda, gorilla and orangutan. Habitat loss is one of the main causes of biodiversity loss, as land that once was forest is cleared for other uses.

There are many important reasons why the forest is important to wildlife. The forest provides information about animal movements and the location of sites where food and smells are important to animals. The forest also provides a place for animals to stay and for them to go and for workers to go to work. The forest also provides an environment in which different animals can thrive and which is not easily disturbed.

Taking a broader perspective beyond our limited human and urban viewpoint, forests serve as vital habitats for a multitude of animal species. These ecosystems encompass an astounding 80% of the world's terrestrial biodiversity, providing a rich tapestry of life. Additionally, forests hold immense significance for diverse human communities, including approximately 60 million indigenous people who depend on these ecosystems for their sustenance and livelihoods. Forests, therefore, bear immense ecological and cultural importance, nurturing a vast array of species and sustaining human societies around the globe.

Forests play a crucial role in supporting wildlife populations and biodiversity. Here are some key importance of forests to wildlife:

1. Habitat: Forests provide essential habitat for a wide range of wildlife species. They offer shelter, nesting sites, and protection from predators. Forests with diverse vegetation and structural complexity can support a greater variety of wildlife, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects, and more.

2. Food and Foraging Opportunities: Forests provide a rich source of food for wildlife. They offer a variety of plants, fruits, nuts, seeds, and other natural resources that form the diet of many animals. Forests also support a complex food web, with different species relying on each other for food, creating a balanced ecosystem.

3. Migration and Movement Corridors: Forests can act as important corridors for wildlife movement, allowing animals to migrate, disperse, and find new territories. They provide connectivity between different habitats, allowing species to access food, water, breeding grounds, and suitable environments for survival.

4. Biodiversity Conservation: Forests harbor a significant portion of the world's biodiversity. They provide a home to numerous species, including rare, threatened, and endangered ones. Protecting and conserving forests is crucial for preserving biodiversity and ensuring the survival of wildlife species.

5. Ecosystem Services: Forests provide a range of ecosystem services that indirectly benefit wildlife. These services include regulating water flow, purifying the air, sequestering carbon, maintaining soil fertility, and preventing erosion. Healthy forests contribute to the overall functioning of ecosystems, supporting the well-being of wildlife and humans alike.

6. Genetic Diversity: Forests can act as reservoirs of genetic diversity for wildlife. They provide opportunities for genetic exchange, adaptation, and evolution within species populations, contributing to their long-term survival and resilience.

It's important to recognize the interconnectedness between forests and wildlife. Healthy forests are vital for sustaining wildlife populations, promoting biodiversity conservation, and maintaining the overall ecological balance. Protecting and responsibly managing forests is crucial for ensuring the well-being and survival of numerous wildlife species.
