There are 3 main phases of clinical trials – phases 1 to 3. Phase 1 trials are the earliest phase trials and phase 3 are later phase trials. Some trials have an earlier stage called phase 0, and there are some phase 4 trials done after a drug has been licensed.

A clinical trial is a stage wherein the experts need to test the vaccines created to their subjects. It cannot be denied that there are so many requirements to achieve this. At present, countries like the UK and Australia are on the stage of having massive vaccine production. Before this stage, they conducted their clinical trials.

It all depends on the type of trials some clinical trials has a single phase while some has 2 to 3 phases. First the drug to be tested is first tried on animals to see the reaction, before it will be tried on human volunteers, observation are taken before the final trial on another sets of humans.

The phases of a clinical trial are Phase I, Phase II, Phase III, and sometimes Phase IV. Phase I focuses on safety and dosage. Phase II tests the effectiveness of the treatment. Phase III involves a larger group of patients and compares the treatment to existing treatments. Phase IV is post-marketing surveillance and is conducted after the treatment has been approved and marketed. It is designed to monitor the safety and effectiveness of the treatment in a larger population over a longer period of time. Each phase is designed to answer specific research questions and evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the treatment.
