Too much indulgence in social media could destroy the physical or real relationships of a person. Internet and social media possess high addiction quotient which usually traps new user. People are getting more into virtual life and presence to fulfil there need of recognition and belongingness. How much likes they get is becoming more important than looking what my brother or sister is going through.

Now a day, people are engaged in their phones even while sitting on dinning table, WE time is reducing; leading to more inter-personal conflicts, loneliness and reduced sense of real belongingness. This all is due to the increasing use of  social media and internet usage.

Honestly yes, for example, if a gamer has an addiction to videogames, he/she will spend most of their quality time playing on the game instead of interacting with family or going to outings with friends. Usually, they are set on beating a new score or being the next top leader in that game. Lots of them do not realize what they are doing because they're so into it at a point, not even the closest members can get through to them. When you have an addiction to literally anything it takes a while to revert back to reality and see what the effect it has on your life, mental state, and also other people.

Yes it can, not only just social media, but also video game addiction. Addiction to technology affects relationships due to lack of connection to each other and bonding moments to your other half. That's why many of our loved ones demand our time more rather than letting us use our gadgets.

A person who is addicted to social media may not remember the people they met in person, such as a loved one who is away on vacation, or a job change. The person may also not be able to connect with people in person, such as a conversation when less than a week ago. This type of addiction is known as "face to face" and is typically nonviolent. When someone is addicted to social media, their focus may be on what is on their phone or computer, not on the people around them, such as their spouse or family. The spouse or family may not know what is going on and may be too busy checking their phone to see if the loved one is okay.
