Nowadays, lot more career choices are coming up, new age careers, conventional one, etc. I found some of my friends talking about that my uncle said there is still scope in engineering and management is good.. bla.. bla... I was surprised that people still depends on relatives with limited knowledge of career to help in choosing a possibly successful career. What you think? career counselling helpful or not?

  1. Nope, a lot of people today are independent they do not follow the dreams of their parents they go for what profession suits best for them unless its a business that runs in the family usually the children will take part in it to help support the family and even they better income that way.

Career counseling is important but as one grows up and interacts with people through internships, they get to understand careers more and can even switch due to better pay, role models who are appealing to them and sometimes due to demand in the market.

These days people hardly depend on friends and family to choose their careers because society has evolved and people are no longer forced to study what they aren't interested in learning. Most times people who study what their family or friends think is right for them are either suffering from self love issues.

Some people still depend on their friends or family for guidance in their future career paths. In countries such as India that expect their children to follow in their footsteps to take over the family business or go into a career path that they think is best and will bring them the most money out of it. Not everyone thinks the same. Consideration of one’s upbringing and surroundings play a huge role in their adult lives.

I believe  most people do not depend on their friends and family to make a career choice. The reason is because internet has become one an engine that people use to answer any questions they might have regarding the career they want to embark on. Second, I have discovered working with a non-profit organization  that many students nowadays are first generation students. No one in their family have attended college before them. Therefore, there is the tendency  to  seek help from advisors at their school.

A lot of people are influenced by friends and relatives when it comes to choosing career choices. A doctor's son/daughter is more inclined towards becoming a doctor. Relatives are an important influence towards choosing a career. However, this is true that relatives sometimes have a very limited scope and perspective. They have an extremely parochial mindset and will influence you to choose a career that they themselves have chosen or their children have chosen. Therefore, while choosing a career, it is important for you to understand that anything done with passion helps to make money in the end. Hence, evaluating your likes and dislikes is extremely important while choosing a career. Don't simply become a part of the lot. Choose your own path with confidence.

I personally think that family is the best people to go for this question. Friends can still be the secondary factor in having the right decision.

As we all know life is different from one country to another, and choosing a career need to think wisely and consult family and friends just to get their opinion and then we can choose. For example , in my country if you study art you will not have a career, but if you study business, tourist guide and engineer you will have options to work.

But what I want to tell you is that you can study in different fields for example, teacher but not all people will have a jobs .
In my country many who study for example chemistry stayed at home with no job or try to find any other job.
but who work in tourist and business find jobs easily, also those who study business can open their own business.
My family advised me with business and they was totally right because i have a career but if I studied what I was thinking to study I will have no job and I will not open my own business.

People's usually get inspired by their relatives in choosing a career, but choosing by yourself is the best way of making it in life, without regret, don't let them choose for you.

Yes people still depend on parents and family for career choice, but I think these people play an advisory role. The final decision should be anchored on the person. Because when your career is not going well, parents and guardians won't be there.

While friends and family may still offer advice and guidance when it comes to choosing a career, people are increasingly turning to other sources, such as career counselors and online resources.
