Being a foodie means having a passion for exploring and experimenting with new foods. Someone who eats food as a hobby rather than out of hunger. In short, you don't have to be an excessive eater to be a foodie.

I understand this term referred to a person who likes food and cannot resist the urge to have food. It may also mean a person who likes being around food maybe to prepare, cook, serve and eat of course with others.

That is a misleading claim. A foodie person is into eating interesting food or gourmet. It means he or she loves trying different delicacies, especially new to him or her.

I believe that being foodie means enjoying all the time. This could mean eating high-fat, high-sugar foods or indulge in foods that are high in unhealthy fats or sugar.
