There are three basic types of suspension components: linkages, springs, and shock absorbers. The linkages are the bars and brackets that support the wheels, springs, and shock absorbers. Springs cushion the vehicle by dampening shock loads from bumps and holes in the road.

Which of these components do you think will be available today? Where would you look for spare parts for them?

The basic suspension system is spring, shock, and absorbers that connect a vehicle to its wheel and allows relative motion between the two. It supports both road holding and rides quality and it's important for the suspension to keep the road wheel in contact with the road surface.

If you mean the types of suspension by their essence then there are two. Dependend and independend. In the first case two front or rear wheels are hard connected to each other. At the latter case each wheel moves indepenently in vertical axle. If you talk about design then there are  three types. Mechanical and pneumatic or the combination of them.

There are generally four types of suspension systems used in vehicles:

Independent Suspension: In this system, each wheel is attached to the vehicle's body separately, allowing them to move independently of each other. This provides a smoother ride and better handling.

Dependent Suspension: This type of suspension is also known as a solid axle suspension, and it connects both the wheels of an axle together, causing them to move in unison. This type of suspension is commonly found on heavy-duty trucks and off-road vehicles.

Semi-Independent Suspension: This system is a combination of independent and dependent suspension systems, where the wheels are not completely independent but do have some freedom of movement. This type of suspension is commonly found on rear-wheel-drive cars.

Air Suspension: This type of suspension uses compressed air to support the weight of the vehicle. It provides a smoother ride and can adjust the ride height of the vehicle for different driving conditions, such as off-roading or highway driving. Air suspension is commonly found on luxury vehicles and heavy-duty trucks.
