I have an external SD card reader that has four slots (SD, Micro SD, Memory Stick, Compact Flash) and when it is plugged into the computer windows shows four removable devices. In the "This PC" folder I can uncheck show hidden drive but they still show in the sidebar. They also will not show the name of the drive just "Removable Drive". I can edit registry keys if required. Thank you for any help.

To change the name of removable drives from shown in the sidebar, you can follow this steps:

  1. Open the Registry register by pressing Windows key+R, typing "regedit" and hitting Enter.
  2. In the left pane of Registry Editor, navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL _MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\Microsoft \Windows\currentVersion\Explorer
  3. Right click on the Explorer key and chose New>key. Name the key "DriveIcons"
  4. Right click on the DriveIcons and chose the New> key. Name the new key with drive letter of the removable drive that you want to rename.
  5. Right click on the new key e.g "E" and chose New>key. Name the new key "DefaultLabel"
  6. Double click on the (Default) in the right pane and and enter the name that you want to give to the removable drive. Click OK to save the changes.
  7.   Close the Registry Editor and disconnect the external SD card reader. When you reconnect the reader, the renamed drive should appear in the sidebar with the new names.
Repeat these steps for each removable drives that you want to rename.

By default, Windows 10 hides removable drives that are not currently connected to the computer. However, you can change this setting to show the drive names even when the drives are not connected. Here are the steps:

Open File Explorer by clicking the folder icon in the taskbar or by pressing Windows key + E on your keyboard.

Click on the "View" tab in the top menu bar and then select "Options" on the right-hand side.

In the Folder Options window, click on the "View" tab.

Scroll down until you see the "Show hidden files, folders, and drives" option and select it.

Uncheck the box next to "Hide empty drives in the Computer folder" and then click "Apply" and "OK" to save the changes.

Now, even when your removable drives are not connected, their names will still be visible in the Computer folder in File Explorer
