The wicket-keeper in the sport of cricket is the player on the fielding side who stands behind the wicket or stumps being watchful of the batsman and ready to take a catch, stump the batsman out and run out a batsman when occasion arises. The wicket-keeper is the only member of the fielding side permitted to wear gloves and external leg guards.[1] The role of the keeper is governed by Law 27 of the Laws of Cricket.[1]

In cricket, the term wicket has several meanings: It is one of the two sets of three stumps and two bails at either end of the pitch. The fielding team's players can hit the wicket with the ball in a number of ways to get a batsman out. The wicket is guarded by a batsman who, with his bat, attempts to prevent the ball from hitting the wicket and to score runs where possible. Through metonymic usage, the dismissal of a batsman is known as the taking of a wicket, The cricket pitch itself is sometimes referred to as the wicket.

In Telugu, wickets are called as viketlu. It is a common term used in cricket matches in Telugu-speaking regions to refer to the dismissal of a batsman. The term is derived from the English word "wicket," which refers to the set of three stumps and twotslu). This word is commonly used in the context of cricket, where it refers to one of the three stumps that are set up on each end of the pitch. When one or more of these stumps is knocked down by the ball bowled by the fielding team, it is considered as a dismissal of the batsman and a wicket is said to have been taken. In Telugu, the word "vike" means "fall" or "collapse" and "etlu" refers to "sticks" or "wooden logs", which is an apt description of a wicket in cricket.
