Some methods to increase reading speed-

1. Gum reading- At the beginning of this exercise take up some newspaper or whatever you want to read. Now, chew gum while you are at it. This method will ensure you don't speak the words aloud while reading.

2. Audible humming- "Hmmm" while you read.

3. Tracing- Use a pen or any tracer to track your progress while reading. keep the tracker's speed steady and uniform and keep underlining whatever you read. Adjust your eyes to the speed of the tracer and not the other way round.

4. Don't read words individually. For eg- ("once upon a time,) // (students enjoyed)// (reading four)//. (hours a day.")

Do you notice the difference here?

You're imbibing 3-4 words at once glance. In the beginning, it won't be easy and you don't necessarily need to comprehend the passage which you're reading just keep on picking up words in groups.

5.Silent counting- Slowly count from 1 to 10 as you read the text. This helps keep you from mentally saying words as you read them. All these techniques will take some time to synch in and don't worry about not understanding the passages for a few days, while you practice the above-mentioned techniques. My advice, try these methods while reading a newspaper because its format and font size are ideal.

There are many ways to reduce the time it takes you to read, one way is subvocalization. For example, if you want to read quickly, you can reduce your subliminal voice by focusing on what you want to read and not letting your subliminal voice take over.
