Pigeons have a reputation for not being the smartest birds in the garden but they were not slow to discover that solar panels provide ideal nest locations to them and the rapid expansion in the popularity of the panels in recent years has meant that pigeons have been left spolit for choice when it comes to choosing a nest site.

Pigeons and other birds use solar panels to seek shelter from predators, weather conditions and to nest. However, the build-up of nesting materials and poo they leave can reduce the effectiveness of your investment.

In many areas, pigeons are attracted to these panels, as they offer shade and protection to the birds.

When these prolific birds flock to a roof, they create costly damage by depositing droppings that eat into the surface of solar panels

There are large amounts of evidence that shows birds are attracted back to solar farms for nesting and shelter. Therefore, solar developers must understand the reasons birds are attracted to the farms to plan against it effectively. One of the causes polarises light appears to lie is emitted by solar panels attract the birds and their insect prey. This polarise light confuses the birds and their prey into thngking it is reflecting water, causing them to attempt to lay eggs on the surface.

Pigeons are often attracted to solar panels for several reasons: Shelter: Pigeons seek out areas that provide protection from the elements, and the space under solar panels can offer a safe, sheltered place to nest. Heat: Solar panels can become very hot on sunny days, and pigeons may be attracted to the warmth they provide. Food sources: If there are bird feeders or open trash cans near your solar panels, pigeons may be attracted to the area in search of food. Lack of predators: Pigeons may feel safe and secure under solar panels, as the location is often elevated and out of reach of predators. Familiarity: Once pigeons have nested in a specific area, they may return to that location repeatedly, even if it is under solar panels. By understanding why pigeons are attracted to solar panels, you can take steps to prevent them from nesting and causing damage to the panels.

Pigeons are not specifically attracted to solar panels themselves, but rather to the areas around them. Solar panels are often installed on rooftops and other high places, which can provide an ideal vantage point for pigeons to observe their surroundings and look for food and shelter.

Additionally, solar panels can create a warm and dry environment, which can be attractive to pigeons seeking a comfortable roosting spot. The spaces between and around solar panels can also provide shelter from wind and rain, making them an appealing spot for pigeons to rest.

Furthermore, pigeons are naturally drawn to flat surfaces, which can mimic the flatness of cliffs or other natural features where they would normally roost in the wild. Solar panels, with their smooth and flat surfaces, can therefore provide a familiar and comfortable spot for pigeons to perch.

To prevent pigeons from roosting on solar panels, it's important to use deterrents such as spikes, nets, or wires to make the area less accessible to them. Additionally, keeping the area clean and free of food debris can discourage pigeons from seeking it out as a food source.

Pigeons are attracted to solar panels because they appreciate the energy efficiency of a solar panel. They also feel that solar panels have a strong aftermarket for food.

Pigeons are attracted to solar panels as they provide shelter and a warm place to roost. The panels also offer protection from predators and the elements. Unfortunately, pigeon droppings can accumulate on the panels and reduce their efficiency, making regular cleaning necessary.
