Everybody's knows the different types of blood groups human have. But, do animals also have such groups? If they have are they similar to humans or not?

A bit more complicated than I expected to have it equal for a maximum living

Yes. The human blood group system is based on three different antigen: A, B and O. The possible blood types we could have are A, B, AB and O and each one of these can be either Rh positive or negative. Type O negative blood is generally considered to be universally accepted by any other blood type and type AB positive can receive any other type.

Dog for their part, have more than eight different antigens that can attach to their red blood cells, most of them labeled Dog Erythocyte Antigen (DEA 1.1, 1.2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7).  Often individuals within a specific breed of dog will have the same blood type - for instance, 60 percent of greyhounds fall into the DEA 1.1 Negative (the universal dog donor) blood group. But new canine blood groups are still being detected- the recently discovered Dal blood group, for example, is only found in Dalmatians.

Cat on the other hand, have only two possible antigens - A and B although they are not the same A and B antigens found on human blood. There is no universal donor or recipient feline blood groups but the vast majority around 90 percent of domestic cats have type A blood, while more exotic purebreds often type B. AB is possible but very rare.

Like dogs, horse blood groups are loosely organized along breed lines, but there are 30 different groups that represent combinations of 8  different antigens A, C, D, K, P, Q and U are internationally recognized, while T is still being researched. Cows are tricky because there are 11 major blood groups A, B, C, F, J, L, M, R,S, T and Z BUT THE b group includes over 60 different antigens making blood matches for transfusion tough.

This answer really gave me an understanding of blood grouping system in humans and you have a great knowledge of it

Its not only humans but also the grouping of blood in animals as well..both explained very well.

Wow you have a great knowledge of animals I never knew animals have blood group just like humans thanks for your answer.

Yes, animals have blood groups like a humans. compare to human animal have a lot of blood group types. Few of the blood group types are following:

  1. Canine blood types
  2. Feline blood types
  3. Equine blood types
  4. Ruminant blood types
Canine blood types:
There are 8 major blood groups in the dog, labeled as DEAC dog erythrocyte antigen) 1 to 8. (DEA 1.1, DEA 1.2, DEA 3, DEA 4, DEA 5, DEA 6,DEA 7, DEA 8).
Feline blood types:
Cats have three blood types A, B and AB.
Equine blood types:
30 blood groups in horses which only 8 are major systems of these 8,7 are internationally recognized(A,C,D,K,P,Q and U).
Ruminant blood types:
  •                                   cattle: 11 major blood group systems in cattle (A,B,C,F,M,R,S,T and Z). The B group has over 60 different antigens making it difficult to closely match donor and recipient.
  •                                   sheep: seven blood group systems have been identified in sheep (A,B,C,D,M,R and x).similar to cattle, the B system is highly polymorphic.
  •                                    Goats: Five major systems have been identified in goats (A,B,C,M and J).

Yes, like humans animals also have different blood groups. In humans, there is an ABO system of blood types, whereas animals have a variety of different blood types. For example, in the case of cattle, there are 11 major blood group systems, A, B, C, F, J, L, M, R, S, T, and Z. The B group has over 60 different antigens, much complicated than humans.

Noo..

Animal and human have different blood groups.

Blood group are classified on the basis of antigen.

Human have two antigen A and B and a surface Rh antigen.

That results in 6 diff blood groups.

Whereas in dogs there are 8 antigen and more than 10 blood groups.

Yes they do! As long as the animals in question have blood (not all do) then they will have species-specific 'blood groups. As with humans, these groups are determined by the structure of the blood based on the presence or absence of antibodies along with the make-up of the proteins that sit on the outside of red blood cells.

Yes they have but they aren't so specific. In dogs we only have 2 types positive and negative. We do test them before giving them blood transfusion. It's similar in cats.

Yes, many animals have blood groups, similar to humans. Blood groups in animals are used to classify the blood of different species and are used in veterinary medicine for transfusions and breeding purposes. Just like in humans, the blood groups of animals are determined by the presence or absence of specific antigens on the surface of red blood cells. Each species has its own unique set of blood group systems, and the number of blood groups and antigens present can vary greatly between species. For example, the domestic dog has at least 14 different blood groups, while the domestic cat has three main blood groups. It's important to note that not all species have well-defined blood groups and not all species have been studied for their blood groups. Research on blood groups in animals is an ongoing field and new discoveries are being made regularly.

Human are not the only species with different blood type ,cat also have ABO blood system. though it is not exactly as ours , other animals have entire different groups, Dogs have A, B, C, D and E

Yes, some animals have blood groups similar to humans, but the systems are different. For example, dogs have different blood types than cats or humans.

No, animals do not have the same blood groups as humans. Human blood groups are classified based on the antigens and antibodies present in the blood. In contrast, animal blood groups are classified differently, as there are a variety of systems used depending on the species of the animal. Generally, animal blood groups are named according to the kind of antibody or antigen that is present in their blood. These systems often vary among animal species, and most veterinary medicine does not require that animals be tested for their blood type prior to receiving a blood transfusion.

Some animals have blood groups that are similar to humans, such as Muslims and Jews. Other animals have blood groups that are not similar, such as dogs and cats. There is no one " RIGHT " blood group for every animal. However, many animals have one or more similar blood groups to humans, such as dogs and cats. Some animals have no right blood group at all, such as dogs and cats.

Yes, animals do have blood groups like humans. However, the types of blood groups and the systems used to classify them can vary between species. In general, the most common blood groups in animals are A, B, and O, and these are typically classified based on the presence or absence of certain antigens on the surface of red blood cells.

For example, in dogs, the most important blood groups are DEA 1.1, DEA 1.2, and DEA 7, while in cats, the most important blood groups are A, B, and AB. In horses, there are over 30 different blood groups, including the A, C, D, K, and Q systems.

It is important to note that just like with humans, blood groups are important to consider when performing transfusions or transplants in animals. Veterinarians and animal hospitals will typically perform blood typing and cross-matching before any transfusions to ensure that the donor and recipient have compatible blood types

Yes, all animals that have blood have blood groups which are quite different from those of humans because every species has a different system.

Yes animals have blood group, but theirs is different from humans. For example horses have eight blood groups A C D K P Q and U. Animals blood group are determine by the presence or absence of antigens.
