Here are some of my best tips to stay safe on the internet.
1. Always check if a website is secure. There are two ways to test this. Either the URL has "https" at the start, or it displays a green padlock which says 'this website is secure' when you click on it. Do not enter personal information or payment details on a website that does not have at least one of these things.
2. Choose a strong password. It should be at least 8 characters long, and have letters and numbers as well as symbols. For example, if I like tacos, a good password would be Tac0s-745! or something like that. The password should also be memorable, so you do not get locked out of your favourite online accounts.
3. Use 2-factor authentication on important accounts (like bank accounts). You may be wondering, what is 2-factor authentication? Well I will tell you. 2-factor authentication is when you will get a confirmation code on your phone when you sign in at a new location. You have to enter this confirmation code to continue. This prevents hackers from entering your online accounts, and you should activate this on accounts that are important to you.
4. Watch out for phishing and specific links. These things are warning signs of a scam. Emails telling you that you have won a lottery you didn't enter. Emails claiming to be from your bank or internet provider. Emails with spelling mistakes, or not from an official email account. These are all things suspicious, so do not click on any links you see in these types of messages.
5. Do not give out your password to anyone, even if you trust them, because their account could also become hacked and you could lose your sensitive data.
6. Use antivirus software, to scan your computer for suspicious files that should maybe not be there. This will help keep your computer secure from hackers and viruses.
If you do these tips, you will most likely stay safe online. I hoped my answer helped you.
