Take a wet cloth and rub on the surface and let it for some time. After that, you will see a clear wet patch only till the level of the gas in the cylinder.

The way I determine the amount of propane left is by weight. The Tank itself weighs approximately 17 lbs. When filled they hold around 18-20 lbs. I have had some success weighing mine either directly on my bathroom scale or weighing myself with and then without the tank in hand.

Total weight - 17 lb = gas remaining in lbs.

I weigh my gas cylinder to check if there is still gas, i don't want a situation when am cooking and it goes off this can be very frustrating and painful, that's what i do.

To check the level of gas in a cylinder, use a gas gauge or a weight scale. For propane cylinders, a gauge can be attached to the valve to measure the level of gas. Alternatively, weigh the cylinder and subtract the tare weight (printed on the cylinder) to determine the amount of gas remaining. Always handle gas cylinders with caution and follow safety guidelines.

You can use a level to check the level of gas in a cylinder by counting the levels of the different types of materials in the cylinder. When the level is reached, the material is measured and its level counted.
