The parasitic roundworms that cause filariasis can take on a variety of thread-like forms. The two worm species Wuchereria bancrofti and Brugia malayi are most frequently linked to this illness. By being bitten by a mosquito, the parasite's larvae spread the sickness to people.

Filaria, also known as lymphatic filariasis, is a parasitic infection transmitted by mosquitoes. The parasites lodge in the lymphatic system, causing swelling and inflammation of the limbs, genitalia, and breasts. It is caused by several species of parasitic worms, including Wuchereria bancrofti, Brugia malayi, and Brugia timori. Preventive measures include mosquito control and mass drug administration.
