To test a hard-wired smoke detector, locate the test button on the device and press and hold it until the alarm sounds. This tests the alarm sound and verifies that the detector is receiving power. It's recommended to test smoke detectors at least once a month and replace batteries or the entire unit as needed.

Press and hold the test button on the smoke detector. It can take a few seconds to begin, but a loud, ear-piercing siren should emanate from the smoke detector while the button is pressed. If the sound is weak or non-existent, replace your batteries.

The fire station would know or watch a YouTube video. Don't mess with that if your not sure just replace it. It's not worth the time but it is important. A!axon sells smoke detectors with Nanny cames.

You can test a hardwired smoke detector by plugging it into an outlet and turning on the light. You will also need a fire extinguisher and a nearby fireman. Take the fireman's extinguisher and put it over the top of the smoke detector. Push the switch on the extinguisher and the fire will be put out.
