There is a difference in heat since grilling is direct and the process of BBQ is always on the heat that is transferred. The time use for grilling is quicker than BBQ.

Grilling is typically small foods, cooked hot and fast with no smoke, often with no lid, and over high heat.

Barbecue is typically larger cuts, cooked low and slow, with the lid on and is like roasting, but often with smoke.

Grilling is done over direct heat at high temperatures, it's all about getting quick and easier with high temperatures and is typically small food, cooked hot and fast with no smoke, often with no lid, and overheat. Barbecue is cooked at low and slow, and it's cooked over coals at low temperatures using indirect heat by pushing coals to one zone of the cooker and the meat to another zone, and is typically larger cuts, with the lid on and is like roasting, but often with smoke.

Grilling and barbecuing are 2 very distinct cooking methods. Small items are frequently grilled, and they are cooled quickly and without smoke, often without a top, an over heat. Barbecue is often bigger chunks of meat that are cooked low and slow with the cover on, similar to roasting but with the addition of smoke.

A grill is a type of firebox used to cook food, while a BBQ is a type of smoke machine used to create fire in reciprocating or symmetrical objects.

The terms "grill" and "BBQ" are often used interchangeably, but they actually refer to two different things.

A grill is a cooking device that typically uses an open flame or electric heating element to cook food directly over high heat. Grilling is a fast cooking method that is best for cooking relatively small and thin cuts of meat, like burgers, hot dogs, and steaks. Grilling is typically done outdoors on a portable or built-in grill.

A BBQ, on the other hand, refers to a slow cooking method that uses low heat and smoke to cook food over a long period of time. BBQ is typically used to cook larger and tougher cuts of meat, like brisket, ribs, and pork shoulder, to make them tender and flavorful. BBQ is usually done using a smoker or a charcoal grill with a lid, and the cooking process can take several hours or even overnight.

So, while grilling is a fast and direct cooking method, BBQ is a slow and indirect cooking method that requires more time and attention to achieve the desired results
