DO NOT CLEAN YOUR PIERCING WITH CONTACT LENS SOLUTION OR SIMILAR PRODUCTS, AS THEY CONTAIN PRESERVATIVES AND CHEMICALS THAT ARE NOT SAFE FOR THE SKIN. DO NOT USE ANY re-sealable piercing solutions that are in a bottle.

IMPORTANT:

DO NOT USE Antiseptic preparations such as Savlon cream or spray, TCP, Hydrogen Peroxide, Lavender oil, Tea tree oil, Dettol, Surgical Spirit etc – DO NOT USE THESE to clean your piercing! These are very harsh and will cause irritation and delay healing.

DO NOT USE contact lens solution or similar to clean your piercing – these contain preservatives and chemicals not suitable for the skin.

General aftercare for all piercings

Clean your piercing twice daily using Neilmed piercing aftercare spray or a single use sterile saline pod. Make sure your hands are clean before cleaning your piercing!
Spray the solution onto a piece of clean lint free kitchen roll and ‘soak’ the piercing for a couple of minutes. Then use a clean cotton bud dipped in the solution to remove any ‘crusty’ bits of secretion that should now be nice and soft thanks to the soak.
Pat dry with clean kitchen roll following cleaning.
When cleaning, ensure any balls or attachments on your jewellery are tightened as they can come loose easily due to the natural movement of the area.

No, it is not recommended to use contact solution to clean a piercing. There are specific products and techniques that are designed to keep piercings clean and reduce the risk of infection. It is best to consult with a professional piercer or doctor for advice.

Using a contact solution to clean a piercing is generally not recommended because a contact solution is designed to be used for cleaning and disinfecting contact lenses; it may contain preservatives and disinfectants that can be harsh on the skin. Instead, using a saline solution for piercing is a better idea. As it is a sterile solution of salt and water, it is much more gentle on the skin and can help to clean and promote the healing of the piercing.
