If it is your very first piercing, then the short answer is yes, a stud would be a better choice. That is because the hoop would cause the piercing to heal with a small curvature, so a stud would be better in the long run

A stud may look better than a ring.

A good piercing shop probably won't let you  get a hoop to begin with because it's a bacteria haven. Which means it won't heal as nicely.

A stud is probably better than a hoop or ring during the initial healing process, a twist nose stud is a good option for a first-time nostril piercing as it is comfortable, secure, and stays out of the way. These studs have  a curves post that fits through the piercing.

It depends on the people who wanted between the two options. Some people prefer to have nose studs and others prefer nose rings. Although nose studs are more comfortable than the ring ones.

Between nose stud and nose ring, many people prefer ring to stud because its flashier that catches the eye of peoples and add some sass to look.

stud may look better than a ring if your piercing is further back or up high on the nasal crease or wing. A ring in this area will need to be quite large, whereas if it is further down the nose it will give you the option to choose a smaller, snug looking ring.
