I have a metal allergy-what jewelry can I wear?

Let's say since nickel is the most common metal allergy, avoid it. We highly recommend nickel-free jewelry. Sterling silver and 18-karat gold work well for most people. Again, 18-karat gold is a soft metal and often they have to add other metals to it to harden the final piece.

The Answer to Your Allergies:

Wear hypoallergenic jewelry:

Purchase jewelry that's made of materials that aren't likely to cause allergic reactions. Look for jewelry made from such metals as nickel-free stainless steel, surgical-grade stainless steel, titanium, 18-karat yellow gold, or nickel-free yellow gold and sterling silver.

If you do have hypersensitive skin, stick to what’s pure for the best symptom-free experience.

Platinum is a precious metal that is rarer and more durable than gold. It offers a naturally white hue that will never tarnish or develop a lustrous patina over time. The platinum jewelry is hypoallergenic and free from harmful alloys that can cause irritation.

Tantalum is a precious metal that is 99% pure, with zero reactive properties. It is resilient and extremely resistant to corrosion. This modern, classic metal is an economical alternative to other precious metals and is quickly becoming very popular for men’s wedding bands. All the tantalum bands are designed with a comfort fit.

Surgical grade stainless steel may contain some nickel but it's generally considered hypoallergenic for most people.

You can use beads, and some are uniquely made and are as beautiful as metal jewelry. Some beads come as necklace and bracelet. Amazon.com has a good collection of these product and you can select the one that best fits your budget.

If you are allergic to metals, it is good to use nickel-free metals. To be specific, you can avail and use sterling silver (925), which is ideal.

If you have a metal allergy, you can wear jewelry made from hypoallergenic metals like titanium, platinum, and 14k or higher gold. You can also try non-metal options like wood, bone, or plastic.

Make sure your jewelry is made of surgical-grade stainless steel or either 14-, 18- or 24-karat yellow gold. White gold may contain nickel. Other nickel-free metals include pure sterling silver, copper, platinum, and titanium. Polycarbonate plastic is okay
