Concrete overlays is an excellent way to resurface old concrete because they are strong, durable, and decorative. The typical acceptable thickness for many contractors is between 1/4 to 2 inches thick. Technically concrete overlay can be as thin or as thick as you want.

The recommended thickness of a concrete overlay should be between 1 and 2 inches. Some people will even go to ¼ of an inch in thickness, which is still sufficient depending on your needs. If you place a 2-inch overlay, you need a very rough surface on the existing slab. Ensure the surface is rough enough.

The thickness of a concrete overlay will depend on the purpose of the overlay and the type of substrate it is being applied to. Generally, a concrete overlay should be at least 1 inch thick. Additionally, it is important to ensure that the overlay is properly mixed and applied, and that it is reinforced with wire mesh or fiber mesh. Finally, it is important to ensure that the overlay is allowed to cure properly before it is used.

The minimum recommended thickness is 1 to 2 in. (25 to 50 mm) for a fully bonded concrete overlay placed on a base slab that is practically free of cracks and in which the concrete is sound, clean, and of good quality. The use of welded wire fabric reinforcement is usually not warranted under these conditions.
