LPG may leak as a gas or a liquid. If the liquid leaks it will quickly evaporate and form a relatively large cloud of gas which will drop to the ground, as it is heavier than air. LPG vapours can run for long distances along the ground and can collect in drains or basements.

LPG is a fossil fuel that is considered to be a relatively clean burning fuel. It still has some environmental problems associated with it. These include the release of carbon dioxide and other pollutants into the atmosphere, as well as the potential for explosions and fires. Additionally, LPG can be toxic if it is not handled properly.
