Yes, dogs can eat cheese, In fact, cheese is often a great training tool, especially for puppies. But should dogs eat cheese? While some dogs can eat cheese, and most dogs love it, many dogs can be intolerant of cheese. Even for dogs that are able to tolerate cheese, it is probably the best fed in moderation.

Benefits of Cheese

Cheese contains protein, calcium, vitamin A, especially fatty acids, and B-complex vitamins. Most dogs love cheese, and trainers often use it for treat-motivated dogs. This snack is also a good way to conceal pills for dogs that requires medication.

Feeding Cheese Safely To Your Dog

While cheese can be safe to feed to your dog, there are some things to remember. Cheese is high in fat, and feeding too much to your dog regularly can cause weight gain and lead to obesity. Even more problematic, it could lead to pancreatitis, a serious and potentially fatal illness in dogs. In addition to the problems presented by the high-fat content, some cheeses contain herbs or other products that are toxic to dogs, such as garlic onions and chives.

Therefore, it's better to feed your dog low-fat cheeses, like mozzarella, cottage cheese or soft goat cheese. Cottage cheese is lower in fat and sodium than other cheeses, helping reduce the risk of obesity. Cottage cheese is lower in lactose, thus reducing the likelihood of intestinal upset.

The word 'cheese' is not harmful if being consumed by dogs. The only cheese that is not possible is the 'blue cheese.' In addition, cheese with some other ingredients is dangerous for them, such as garlic, onion, herbs, and so on.

Cheese is high in fat, and taking care of a lot of your dog routinely can cause weight gain and lead to stoutness. Considerably more hazardous, it could prompt pancreatitis, a genuine and possibly lethal ailment in canines.

Cheeses that have herbs, garlic, raisins, or other added flavors should also be avoided. Garlic and raisins are some of the most toxic foods for dogs and can cause serious health issues. Goat cheese, brie, and feta all have high levels of saturated fat, which make them unhealthy for dogs to consume.

The amount of cheese that is to be given to a dog, depends upon the dog. Some dogs are lactose tolerance while some just love eating cheese, but it is often suggested not to give more than a few small bites of cheese to a dog.

Cheese is not inherently toxic to dogs, but it can be high in fat and calories, which can lead to obesity and digestive issues. Small amounts as treats are okay, but it's best to avoid feeding your dog cheese regularly. Additionally, some dogs may be lactose intolerant and can experience stomach upset from consuming dairy products.
