You can use home inverter as UPS for desktop computer, only if your home inverter has offline UPS mode. Many home inverters have come with ECo and offline UPS modes.

I have used a TrippLite LS606M Voltage Regulator for many years, instead of the much more pricey UPS. It does pretty much everything a UPS does, but without a battery backup, so if the power fails you have no time to shut down the computer or save anything you are working on.

From what little I understand about inverters, they use batteries, and convert DC to AC just as UPS do, but are too slow switching over during power outage to help a PC. As such, they are no better than a voltage regulator.

Both inverter and UPS can produce AC powers from DC sources and thus are often confused with each other. A UPS is a more advanced device with a wide range of functions.

One of its functions is that UPS uses an inverter as its internal component. The UPS can detect the lack of electricity and inverts the battery voltage; thus, you can use a UPS as an inverter.

Inverter and UPS are both similar, but you can't use an inverter like UPS, and there's a reason. Inverters are not much more sophisticated than the UPS. It uses the battery as a circuit, and its backup is electronic power.

Yes, an inverter can be used as a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) if it has a built-in battery or if it's connected to an external battery.

No, an inverter cannot be used as a UPS. An inverter is a device that converts direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC). A UPS, on the other hand, is an uninterruptible power supply system that provides emergency power to a load when the main power source fails.
