In 2018, YouTube counts views when a video is watched for at least 30 seconds (or its entirety if shorter than 30 seconds). YouTube also filters out views that it believes are not valid, such as those generated by bots, automated programs, or other deceptive means. As such, it is possible to experience a difference in view counts as YouTube removes invalid views.
