The Principality of Sealand is a micronation claiming Fort Roughs, also known as Rough Towers. It was originally an installation built during World War II by the U.K. to guard the Thames Estuary. At the time, the fort was within international waters as it was too far from the coast. Years later, radio broadcaster Paddy Roy Bates occupied the fort to set up his own station, but gave up on that and ended up claiming independence as the Principality of Sealand. These claims are not officially recognized by any established sovereign nation, however. Also, since 1987, Sealand has sit within British waters due to a territorial expansion.

To sum it up, while Fort Roughs was originally in international waters, not belonging to any country in particular, it's now located within British territory. As for Sealand's claims to independence, I'm afraid no one takes them seriously.

Sealand is located in international waters, on the military fortress of Roughs Tower. It is the smallest country in the world. The country's national motto is E Mare, Libertas meaning From the Sea, Freedom, reflecting its enduring struggle for liberty through the years. Sealand has been an independent sovereign State since 1967.

Sealand, also known as the Principality of Sealand, is an unrecognized micronation located in the North Sea approximately 12 nautical miles (22 km) off the coast of Suffolk, England. Prior to the formation of Sealand, the area was part of the United Kingdom, and the UK still claims sovereignty over the area.

Sealand was founded in 1967 by the late Paddy Roy Bates, a British businessman, who occupied the former WWII British naval platform known as Roughs Tower. Bates declared the platform to be an independent sovereign state, and named it Sealand, establishing himself as head of state. The platform was recognized as a sovereign state by Bates, and his family, but it was never officially recognized by any other country or government.

Sealand is an unrecognized self-proclaimed country that occupies a former World War II sea fort in the North Sea. The area was not part of any country prior to its establishment as a self-proclaimed state in 1967. The formation of Sealand was the result of a group of individuals taking over the abandoned fort and declaring it an independent nation. However, its sovereignty is not recognized by any other country or international organization.

Sealand is an unrecognized self-proclaimed country on an offshore platform. The area it occupies was previously considered international waters, so it was not part of any country. The platform was originally built during World War II as a defensive fortification, and it was later occupied by a group who declared it an independent nation.

The country that is part of the sea is often called the sealand country. When the sea was part of another country, it became divided into two parts. The country that is part of the sealand country is not always called the country of the sea.
