If it happens, it is expected that lots of people will die. Not only people but also most of the living things on the planet will die. It is not a good thing to happen to us.

I suppose you mean comet. Asteroids are just very large rocks sometimes the size of mountains that floats in space. They are mostly found (in the asteroid belt) between Mars and Jupiter. When they pass near the earth it is only wind they cause but if it is a comet it could create heat.
