Grout is basically a mixture of cement and sand. If you neglect to seal your grout, bacteria and stain are probably going to seep in. Its advisable to invest in a grout sealant because it protects your grout from bacteria and water. In addition it prevents the grout from breaking and wearing away.

To seal your grout, just apply sealer to the grout lines and wait for 5 to 15 minutes, to allow the first coat to soak into the surface. Then re-apply a second coat and then wait for it to completely dry and cure.

Sealing grout helps to prevent moisture, stains, and bacteria from penetrating the surface, thus increasing the longevity of tiles. To do it yourself, clean the grout, let it dry, and apply a sealant using a brush or roller, following the manufacturer's instructions.
