Bone marrow surgery typically takes several hours. During the procedure, the surgeon will make an incision in the patient's abdomen or chest and remove a small amount of bone marrow. The amount of time required will depend on the type of surgery and the patient's individual situation. After the surgery is complete, the patient will need to stay in the hospital for a few days for recovery.
