When was the initial clock created?
more_vert
No idea when the first mechanical clock was created but clocks have been in history from a long time in form of sundials. I think a sundial is something really interesting even though exceedingly simple.

The first mechanical clocks were made in Europe from the beginning of the fourteenth century, and until the pendulum clock was made in 1656, they were the main means of telling time.

Many clocks have been made over time, and before clocks were been made our forefather uses the star and sun to calculate what hour of the day it was.

The first mechanical clocks were invented in Europe during the 14th century, and they were not very accurate. They were initially used in churches to regulate the ringing of bells and for religious ceremonies.

At this time, telling time was still largely a matter of observation of the sun, stars, and other natural phenomena. Sundials, water clocks, and hourglasses were also commonly used for timekeeping.

As mechanical clocks became more common and improved in accuracy, they were used by people such as scientists, astronomers, and wealthy individuals. However, it was still not until the 17th century that clocks became common household items.

Therefore, during the early days of clockmaking, only a few people who had access to these devices would be able to tell the time accurately. For most people, timekeeping remained a relatively imprecise and variable affair that relied on the observation of natural cycles and other methods of estimation.

The first clock, called a sundial, was created in ancient times and worked by casting a shadow to indicate the position of the sun in the sky. People used it to tell time during daylight hours, but it was not very accurate and could not be used at night. As clocks evolved and became more precise, the ability to tell time became more widespread, with clocks being placed in public spaces such as churches and town squares so that people could reference the time throughout the day.

The first clock was created in the 14th century. It was a large mechanical clock that was built in the city of Strassburg, Germany. This clock was able to accurately tell the time and was used to regulate the city's public events.

first known geared clock was invented by the great mathematician, physicist, and engineer Archimedes during the 3rd century BC. Archimedes created his astronomical clock that was also a cuckoo clock with birds singing and moving every hour.

Before the first clock was created probably in Germany, shadow from the reflection and position of the sun was used to tell the time during the day while some animals like the cock are sometimes useful during the night and at the early hours of the day. Although, this devices are not accurate but at least they were useful to humans living at that time.

The first mechanical clocks are believed to have been invented in the 14th century. One of the earliest known mechanical clocks was the "verge escapement" clock, developed by Richard of Wallingford in England around 1326.
