I think standpipe has a valve. The system is manualy operated. You have to connect a hose that have to be placed nearby standpipe and open the valve in a case of fire.

Standpipe use keeps stairwells free and makes exiting residents safer. Instead of looping around the stairs, standpipes go straight up and down, considerably reducing the length and, consequently, the loss of water pressure through friction loss.

They are positioned in a up/down direction and they help firefighters deploy their hose line quick and easy with a certain amount of water pressure that gets released.

Standpipes are pipes that provide a water supply for firefighting and other emergencies in large buildings. They are located in strategic locations throughout the building and are connected to a separate water supply system. To use a standpipe, a hose is attached and a valve is opened to allow water to flow through the hose. Standpipes are an important part of a building's fire safety system and are regularly inspected and tested.

It go in a direct up and down direction rather than looping around the stairs well, greatly reducing the length and Thus the loss of water pressure due to friction loss

Standpipes are vertical pipes that provide water to firefighting personnel. Water is supplied from a pressurized source and distributed through outlets.

Standpipes are pipes that are used for firefighting. They are connected to a water supply, usually a municipal water system, and are used to provide a steady flow of water to firefighters. The standpipe system consists of pipes that are installed in a building and connected to a water supply. When the fire alarm is triggered, the water supply is activated and the water is delivered to the firefighters through the standpipes. The standpipes also provide a direct connection to the water supply, allowing firefighters to access water quickly and easily.

The bar is used to lift a cover in the road, exposing the hydrant. The standpipe is then "sunk" into the hydrant, and the hose is connected to the exposed ends of the standpipe. The bar is then combined with the key, and is used to turn the hydrant on and off.
