Kashmir is a mountainous region and has number of lakes, most of which are alpine located in higher reaches, at 3000 meter above sea level. A few lakes lie in lower parts i.e. the valley itself, like Dal, Nigeen, Manasbal and Wular Lake. All of these lakes are natural and about 20 of these are significant.
