I did something which I considered to be despicable a few years back. I still blame myself years later. How do you cope with guilt

Remember that what you are feeling is normal. Give yourself time to ponder and reflect on what you have done. An effective way to lessen the guilt is to ask for forgiveness, however, if it's inapplicable to your situation or if it has been given already, try writing what you feel on a paper to lessen the guilt. Remember that human makes mistakes but what is important is to not do the same mistake again. You have to learn to forgive yourself in order to move forward.

Talking to someone can help lift that feeling of guilt from you and you feel free, if that don't work try visiting a therapist for counseling and guidance or even your pastor.

Thank you so much. I think the counselling route will work as it involves talking to an absolute stranger who is ethical

For me I try not to do anything that make me feel guilty in the future, I am not perfect but also I don't like to feel gulity too .

One reason is that if you hurt a person and after that this person died and you don't even have the chance to fix the mistake you did , you will feel guilty for many years maybe till the end of life, thats why I try to avoid hurting people no matter what they do.

I avoid those who hurt me so that I don't hurt them more and then feel guilty.

If I do something I always feel guilty and the best way to get rid of your guilt is to try to make it up to that particular thing that you have done.

If it is so severe, then I would feel the same thing. But then, I would not make hard for myself. Instead, I will try to find ways to relieve myself from being in this situation.

Just forget about it and renew yourself. Do better things than what you've done before and let that mistake be a lesson for you. Last time I've felt guilty, I set that as an inspiration for me not to make that same mistake that I have done.

It is so hard to go away from quilt when we have done something really bad but it is very important to forgive your self that is if you want to live long enough on earth
