I am currently living in Indonesia where religious people are almost 80-90% of the population. So let me elaborate what is truly happen here and how will it be if you were living among of these bunch of people.
I am deeply sorry that Religious people SHOULD NOT interfere anyone despite of they have the same thoughts or not. It is disgusting to hear that people should know you deeper by knowing your faith and who’s the God name.
Ok, as I said,
As I am living in Jakarta - ID, interfere anyone’s religions is someway natural. As natural as asking “What’s your name?” or “What’s your job now?”. these kind of interference includes :
1. People will always ask you to do everything in a basis of Bible and it’s Verses
For example, I was born as a Catholic. However, my Catholic friends were all keeping me living in a Catholic way like : “Mate, ur GF is Moslem, we should find someone who has a same faith with you”. They would even dare to share you verses to show how sin you are. Although they were having a same background as you, it gives me like “Eww, what’s your problem Mate? She’s my girl, not yours”.
2. You will lack of opportunity to show up yourself although there were nothing wrong with that
Everything you have done will be Harom and Harom although it has nothing wrong with that. Everytime during Ramadhan, I am strongly prohibited to eat in public area during fasting month. Every store are required to put a shade/ curtain so no one can see through. They will say it like “be respectful” but it somehow giving an injustice to whom didn’t celebrate it. Furthermore, your friend (even the close one) will be dare to ask “whao, you’re eating, seems you’re a Non-moslem”.
3. Religion will become something MUST have in the society and you will be marked negatively if you don’t have one
In Indonesia, God has been mentioned on the top first thing in their ideology of Pancasila, moreover, Indonesian are having traumatic with Communism after the massacre in 1965. It is so pity that during the New Order, many of teachers were all brainwashed by a paradigm that “Irreligious = Communist”. It is a very shocking me out as “Well, not all Atheists are Communist, although Communists are atheist”. Hence, you will always being asked whenever you register yourself for a school, for a job, for a governmental papers, even to become a politician. They will always keep wondering what is your religion with a couple of reason like :
“Knowing your kid’s religion will makes us easier to give them a proper subject”
“Knowing your religion will makes us able to give you the exact day off (either Eid Al Fitr, or Christmas, or Deepavali)”
I guess that’s my point of view along with my terrible experience to live with religious people.
I am still an atheist at this moment and no wonder if I will be back or convert myself. But forget it, Let it be my personal choice as I will never ask anyone’s faith and why they preferred to do so...
I respect religions and beliefs of people. I won't call myself religious in a superstitious way. My way of seeing religion is from the Hindu scriptures which contain as much spirituality as much as science.
