It's possible to build a stable, self-sustaining colony on Mars.  It will be very difficult and expensive and will require major technological advances and a considerable amount of resources.  The conditions on Mars are harsh and we will need to find ways to produce food, water and other resources as well as develop ways to protect ourselves against the harsh environment.

Several organizations and governments around the world are working on plans to send humans to colonize Mars.  Key challenges to overcome are spacecraft and technology to transport people to and from Mars, finding food and water and developing the vast infrastructure and support systems needed.

It is possible if we are able to:

  • Successfully land on Mars
  • Find sustainable  source of water
  • Convert carbon dioxide of Martian environment into oxygen
  • Solve the issue of less gravity
  • do something about radiations coming from the sun, since there is no ozone layer on Mars to protect us from harmful radiations from sun.
  • warm extremely cold temperature on Mars
  • Remove perchlorate from Martian soil which are poisonous to human beings.

It is possible to build a colony in mars. There is so much in mars that is so surprising. According to NASA, some photos taken on mars and some place on earth are difficult to differentiate. There are some places where valleys actually show that there was once rivers flowing in this planet due to evidences on action of rivers. To build a self sustaining colony, science would have to prove that mars can support life.
